Bora was admitted to practice in 2008 and called to the Bar in 2010 at the age of 26. Prior to that he was Tipstaff to the Hon Justice D A Ipp, AO, of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, a solicitor at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, and a university tutor and lecturer. He also undertook mini-pupillages at leading barristers’ chambers in London in 2009, including One Essex Court.
Bora’s areas of practice are commercial and public law. Within these areas, Bora accepts briefs in the following specialised fields: administrative; building and construction; competition and consumer protection; conflict of laws (private international law); constitutional; contract; corporations; employment; equity and trusts; insolvency; migration and citizenship; negligence; and property. He accepts first instance and appellate briefs and appears regularly on judicial review applications, both for and against government departments and agencies.
He has appeared unled in the High Court (Special Leave and original jurisdiction), Full Court of the Federal Court, Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court, Full Court of the Family Court, Supreme Court of NSW, District Court of NSW, Local Court of NSW, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. He has been led by Senior Counsel in the High Court (appellate and original jurisdiction), NSW Court of Appeal, and Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal.
From 2013 to 2019, Bora was a legal officer (with the rank of Flight Lieutenant) in the Royal Australian Air Force Specialist Reserve. In that role, Bora worked in the areas of military administrative, discipline, and operations law. He appeared before courts-martial and Defence Force Magistrates. He has a particular interest in the law of outer space and continues to be involved in that area outside of the Australian Defence Force.
Bora is currently a reporter for the Commonwealth Law Reports. He was previously a reporter for the New South Wales Law Reports.
Bora has undergraduate degrees in English literature and law (with first class honours) from the University of Sydney and a master’s degree in law (Bachelor of Civil Law) from the University of Oxford.
