Michael was admitted to practice in 2007 and called to the New South Wales Bar in 2014. He has over 18 years’ experience in commercial law and, in particular, insolvency, bankruptcy and corporations law.
Michael has been listed as a Recommended Barrister in the list of Leading Insolvency and Restructuring Barristers in Doyle’s Guide 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, a Leading Barrister in Doyle’s Guide 2021, 2022, and 2023, and a Preeminent Barrister in Doyles Guide 2024, together with being listed as a Recommended Barrister in the list of Leading Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Barristers in Doyle’s Guide 2023 and 2024, together with being listed in Best Lawyers 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 in the Insolvency and Reorganization Law, and Litigation, categories.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Michael was a Senior Associate in the Insolvency and Restructuring Group at a global firm. He acted for major banks, financial institutions, lenders, insolvency practitioners and private equity firms in relation to security documents and complex enforcement issues, formal and informal restructures, corporate and personal insolvency issues, frauds, negligence claims and other non-lending losses.
Michael has continued this practice at the Bar, where he acts for major banks and insolvency practitioners on all aspects of banking and insolvency law, including in relation to technical insolvency disputes including priority issues, retention of title disputes, the scope and enforceability of securities and claims in relation to the recovery of voidable transactions.
Michael also practices in a broad range of commercial and equity matters including corporations, property, and general commercial disputes, and regularly appears unled in the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Court of New South Wales, Federal Circuit Court, Supreme Court, District Court and Local Court, as well as in proceedings in Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland.
