James was admitted to practice in 2021 and was called to the Bar in 2026. James accepts briefs in all areas of law, with a particular interest in commercial disputes, public law and class actions.

Before coming to the Bar, James was a Senior Associate at MinterEllison, before which he practiced at the Australian Government Solicitor.

James has extensive experience as a solicitor advocate, having appeared in contested final hearings in the Federal Court (including in its appellate jurisdiction), the Federal Circuit and Family Court, and the Administrative Review Tribunal.

James has acted for and advised Commonwealth departments and agencies in a range of matters in courts and tribunals throughout Australia, including judicial review applications, class actions and complex tort claims. He also has experience in environment and planning law, having acted for developers and government agencies in the Land and Environment Court’s merits review, civil penalty and criminal jurisdictions.

James holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney.
